1. What did you do in 2008 that you’d never done before? Got married. Traveled to Italy. Performed in a band in public.
2. Did you keep your new years’ resolutions and will you make more for next year? I make New Years Goals instead of resolutions. It takes some of the pressure off and I find it’s easier to actually accomplish what I want. With that in mind, I wanted to cut back on drinking and work toward freelancing. Both of those things are 90% where I want them.
This year I want to get healthier and bring my freelancing goal to 100%. I’d also really like to get a couple of goats.
3. Did anyone close to you give birth? An awesome little guy was welcomed to the fold by some friends of ours.
4. Did anyone close to you die? My paternal grandmother. The sweetest little Italian woman who ever lived.
5. What countries did you visit? Mexico, Italy.
6. What would you like to have in 2009 that you lacked in 2008? No health issues.
7. What date from 2008 will remain etched upon your memory, and why? My wedding date: 6-7. And 11-4, the date that I became suddenly patriotic.
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year? Finally jumping into the freelance pool.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury? Illness. No serious injuries but it does seem like I got a lot clumsier for some reason.
11. What was the best thing you bought? My macbook. Finally switching to a digital date book.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration? My kick ass husband and his endless patience. The American people for doing the right thing, presidential voting-wise.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed? Everyone who voted yes on Prop 8.
14. Where did most of your money go? The trip to Italy.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about? The wedding. The trip to Italy. My last day working for Da Man.
16. What song will always remind you of 2008? Smell Yo Dick. Anything from the musical Hair.
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
– i. happier or sadder? Happier.
– ii. thinner or fatter? I’m not sure. I tend to start putting on my winter blubber about now and then shedding it in the spring.
– iii. richer or poorer? Poorer. But not by a lot.
18. What do you wish you’d done more of? Exercise. Cooking.
19. What do you wish you’d done less of? Drinking. Procrastination.
20. How will you be spending Christmas? I spent it at home with the fella and kitties. And then we walked up the street and got some Chinese food.
21. Where will you spend New Year’s Eve? House party in Magnolia w/ a view of the fireworks!
22. Did you fall in love in 2008? Naw. I’m still pretty into my husband.
23. How many one-night stands? 0.
24. What was your favorite TV program? I finally saw and kind of loved Dexter. I also really enjoyed Mad Men right up until the last five minutes of the last episode of season 1. And then they did something REALLY STUPID with the narrative. I’m still excited about watching season 2 though. I also rediscovered the original Beverly Hills 90210 because the new one is so terrible. I wanted to confirm that the old one wasn’t quite as suck-town. And I was right!
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year? I guess I’m still pretty pissed at Mormons whereas before I was ambivalent. Not all of them though. Just the jerks.
26. What was the best book you read? This year I discovered and became obsessed with Chuck Klosterman and I celebrate his entire catalog.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery? I rarely “discover” music anymore. I’m getting old so whenever I hear something “new”, it’s already been out for a while. But I jumped on the She and Him bandwagon.
28. What did you want and get? Married to my guy. To play live music. Obama to win the election.
29. What did you want and not get? To be 100% freelance.
30. What was your favorite film of this year? Let the Right One In, My Effortless Brilliance, Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay, The Brothers Solomon. It was a slow year.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? 30. I’m told it’s the New Twenty. But better because you can already drink legally. I held and played in the Baxtle of the Bands. Our band won. It wasn’t the LEAST BIT fixed.
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying? IMMEASURABLY? I don’t think anything. It was a pretty good year. But being a bit healthier would have been nice.
34. What kept you sane? My guy. My friends. Tobe.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most? President Elect Obama.
36. What political issue stirred you the most? All that Prop 8 bullshit.
37. Who did you miss? Friends. My grandma.
38. Who was the best new person you met? This question always gets me into trouble. Luckily, no one is going to argue w/ a baby winning this category so I’m going to say Nate Blank!
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2008: Being an adult is OK and doesn’t mean my life is over.
